A Story of Faith

Every July from the 17th to the 26th, the hallowed hill in West Scranton
rings out with the voices singing the familiar hymn..."O Good St. Ann,
St. Ann pray for us."
But it's not just the sound of voices; it's the echo of hearts, as thousands
of people pray to their Saint for her intercession.
The scene is the grounds of St. Ann's Monastery Basilica. The occasion is
the Solemn Novena in honor of St. Ann. The participants are people from all
walks of life...and from almost every State in the Union.
What is the attraction of this novena? What causes it to flourish at a
time when so many devotions have faltered? A question frequently asked about
the weekly Novena held each Monday as well as the Solemn Novena in July is
this: Just what is it that draws people to the Novena site? What keeps the
crowds coming? What attracts new clients to the novena? It's not simply seeing
the large crowds; and it's certainly not just curiosity. Basically what draws
them to the Novena is THEIR OWN FAITH. They experience needs in their lives
and further recognize the power of God at work through this devotion to St.
Ann satisfying their needs. Essentially it is their FAITH in the power of
St. Ann, Mother of the Virgin Mary, Grandmother of Jesus, that draws them
to the novena.
